The rule set behind the classifier, and every dated comparison table we publish, in one public repository.

The complete rule set behind the face shape classifier, and every dated comparison table our articles publish, live in one public repository on GitHub — github.com/TSjianjiao/knowyourfaceshape-data — under the CC BY 4.0 license. You can read it, cross-check the tables against the articles they came from, reuse it or build on it.

What is in the repository

  • The rule set. classification/ruleset.json holds the seven shape prototypes on both measurement scales, the spread of each feature, the weights, the manual-angle boost and an explicit block of disclosed limitations. These are the same constants the live classifier imports; the method page publishes them as prose.
  • A readable copy. classification/ruleset.md is the same rule set as a plain table, for reading without a JSON viewer.
  • The tables. tables/ holds every dated comparison table this site publishes, as Markdown and JSON, one file pair per article, each linked back to the live page. At the 30 September 2026 refresh it held 74 tables — 570 rows — across 31 articles.

What the tables are

One row is one published position: the date it was published, the kind of source that published it, and the number or instruction it gave, ordered oldest first. Sources are named so every row can be checked independently; links to them are deliberately not included. The positions recorded in the tables belong to their publishers — the archive records what was published, with dates, and claims no ownership of it. Each article then states which rows moved over the period it covers, and which did not.

What the data does not prove

The limitations are part of the data, not a footnote — ruleset.json carries them in its own disclosed_limitations block. In full:

  • Heart (n=1), Diamond (n=3) and Triangle (n=0) prototypes are interpolated along the literature ordering, not measured.
  • Measured jaw angle does not separate Square from Round in the calibration set — both group means sit near 133 degrees — while the published literature places the two shapes far apart. That is why the site reports mixed-shape hints and a confidence band instead of a single settled answer.
  • The calibration data is 50 local photographs, MediaPipe GPU inference and single-annotator draft labels: a calibration aid, not a validation set. We publish no accuracy percentage derived from it.

Using and citing the data

The rule set and the tables are published under the CC BY 4.0 license: reuse, redistribution and commercial use are fine, and attribution is the one condition. Credit knowyourfaceshape.com and link to the originating article where one exists. The third-party positions quoted inside the tables belong to their publishers, and the archive claims no ownership of them.
